The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video statement on Sunday, claiming that the footage shows a drone strike on a Ukrainian military convoy. According to reports, the video was recorded in Sudzha, a region in Kursk, Russia, but its exact date has not yet been verified.
In recent days, Russian forces have been attacking the Kursk region to regain control, achieving significant success. Sources indicate that by Friday, Ukrainian forces were nearly encircled in this area due to rapid Russian advances. On Sunday, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that the offensive was ongoing and that the encirclement was almost complete. According to the Ukrainian military’s General Staff, their forces repelled 15 Russian attacks in the Kursk region, while the Russian Air Force carried out 12 airstrikes.
Last year, Ukrainian forces launched an unexpected, rapid offensive in the Kursk region, capturing some territories. More than two years have passed since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered thousands of troops into Ukraine. Kyiv claims that its recent attacks aim to strengthen its position in future negotiations and force Russia to withdraw its forces from eastern Ukraine.
Changes in U.S. President Donald Trump’s policy regarding Ukraine and Russia have caused significant concern among European leaders. There are increasing fears that Ukraine might lose the war and that Trump is turning his back on Europe. Last month, the U.S. suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, particularly after a tense meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28, which reportedly ended in a heated argument.
